CMS Scheduler is a utility program that can be configured on a machine to run automated tasks at scheduled times of the day.
CMS Scheduler is typically used in an environment where certain computer tasks require to be completed on a regular basis. This may be file transfers from mainframes (requires suitable file transfer software), copying of files from one location to another on a network, even running other programs to reformat files or submit queries to mainframes etc. In other words, CMS Scheduler can be used to automate all those manual tasks which you would otherwise do by hand or by running batch files.
Generally, it is recommended that CMS Scheduler is set up on a PC which is not going to be in regular use by a user.
CMS Scheduler runs as a client and server. The server is the component which performs all of the scheduling and the running of tasks and runs as a Windows Service. The client is a front-end to the server to enable tasks to be configured on the server. Multiple clients are supported.
The client and server can be run on the same machine, but more often, it is usual for the client to be on another machine and the communication between the client and server is done across a network - the client is used to administer the server remotely. Communication operates on all standard network operating systems.
