Vector NTI Viewer Publisher's description
from InforMax, Inc.
Vector NTI Viewer, a freeware program, allows scientists to study and analyze biological molecules.
Vector NTI Viewer, a freeware program, allows scientists to study and analyze biological molecules. It incorporates a small subset of functions from the much more sophisticated Vector NTI Suite software.
WWW Entrez server's report pages have a "Save As..." option, allowing you to choose a data transfer mode for Entrez reports. The "MIME GenBank" button sends GenBank data as chemical/seq-na-genbank MIME type; if your Internet browser is configured to call the Vector NTI viewer, the data will be automatically opened in Vector NTI Viewer's Display window.
Vector NTI Viewer can read Vector NTI Molecule Documents, and molecule data from GenBank, EMBL or FASTA files. You may also paste molecule descriptions in one of the above formats from the Clipboard. In addition, the Viewer can read plain nucleotide sequence data form ASCII file or the Clipboard, automatically creating a virtual annotated molecule for that nucleotide sequence.
Upon being opened by the Viewer, a molecule is loaded in a Molecule Display window. This window consists of text, graphics and nucleotide sequence panes and contains a text description, circular or linear molecule map, and the molecule's formatted nucleotide sequence respectively. Vector NTI Viewer uses the original advanced layout algorithms to automatically place graphics objects optimally. However, if a molecule is opened from a Vector NTI Molecule Document, Vector NTI Viewer does not attempt to generate a new graphics representation of the molecule automatically; the original picture saved in the Molecule Document is displayed exactly as it was formatted in the Vector NTI package's Molecule Picture Editor, including all formatting details and annotations. This way you can view graphics rich documents, created by the full-version of Vector NTI.
You can print any Molecule Display window's pane, or you can save it to the external file (Windows Metafile format on Windows and PICT format on Macintosh) or paste it to the Clipboard. The Clipboard allows you to insert the maps, sequences, and molecule descriptions directly into your documents prepared in your favorite word processor.
You can link text and graphics panes of a Molecule Display window to manage them more effectively. This is extremely useful in the case of maps of large molecules containing hundreds of features and restriction sites.
In the Viewer you can perform a simple analysis - search for restriction sites, search for ORFs, and translate nucleotide sequence in any reading frame. If a molecule was opened from a Vector NTI Molecule Document, additional data generated in the full Vector NTI package will be shown but may not be modified or re-created in the Vector NTI Viewer. This includes results of a motif search, PCR primers, sequencing primers and hybridization probes, description of the component fragments which were used to construct a molecule, and a "Construction plan" which is the result of Vector NTI molecule design process.
We hope you enjoy this freeware and that it will help you appreciate the power and convenience of the full Vector NTI package.
