Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS) that runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, and Windows. QGIS supports vector, raster, and database formats. QGIS is licensed under the GNU Public License.
The name Quantum GIS really has no siginificance, other than it starts with a Q and QGIS uses the excellent Qt Toolkit from Nokia (formerly trolltech).

В· A new plugin has been included that allows for offline editing.
В· Field calculator will now insert NULL feature value in case of calculation error instead of stopping and reverting calculation for all features.

В· Added a native (C++) raster calculator implementation which can deal with large rasters efficiently.
В· Improved interaction with extents widget in statusbar so that the text contents of the widget can be copied and pasted.

В· Added --configpath option that overrides the default path (~/.qgis) for user configuration and forces QSettings to use this directory, too. This allows users to e.g. carry QGIS installation on a flash drive together with all plugins and settings.

System Requirements:В· Qt 4.2.2 is required (comes with the installer package).
В· The Expat XML Parser is required for the GPS plugin.
В· The raster georeferencer plugin requires the GNU Scientfic Library (GSL).
