Longitudinal waves Publisher's description
from Andrew Duffy
Using this simulation, you can investigate longitudinal traveling waves.
Using this simulation, you can investigate longitudinal traveling waves. Sound waves traveling through the air are good examples of such longitudinal waves.
In a longitudinal traveling wave, the particles in the medium oscillate back and forth along the same direction that the wave itself is traveling. In this model, the colored balls show the average position of air molecules in the vicinity of each ball.
The model also shows, for reference, the corresponding transverse traveling wave.
