This is a free chmod calculator that will help you calculate chmod permissions.
This is a free chmod calculator for the calculation of chmod file permission values. What is the chmod? According to Wikipedia.org, the chmod command (abbreviated from change mode) is a shell command in Unix environments. When executed, the command can change file system modes. Use this calculator to quickly caluculate the permissions by entering various numbers into the calculator. To obtain permissions, the calculator is a 3 x 3 matrix. Owner, Group, Other are across the top and Read, Write, Execute are in the vertical column of the matrix. You then simply can click the Read, Write, Execute check boxes for owner, group and other. The calculator will then calculate the Octal and Symbolic nomenclature. Here is a simple example. Let's say that you want to calculate the Octal for permissions for the Owner, Group, and Other. Then you would simply check the boxes across row one (the Read row or the top row of the calculator matrix). You will see that the Ocal that results is 444 and ths Symbolic is -r--r--r--. Another common example that this calculator is useful for is calculating the Read, Write, Execute chmod (remember this means the file system change mode) for all three (Owner, Group, Other). If you check all nine of the boxes for this, you will see that the resulting Octal and the resulting Symbolic are 777 and -rwxrwxrwx . This is just a brief summary of what this calculator can do and it is free for the download. So, please use it and if you have any quesitons, please feel free to contact the developer.
