2-D Contaminant Transport GUI (2DCT) is developed based on an existing analytical solution for two-dimensional transport of contaminants in a saturated soil layer. The computer program is given for pulse source and includes advective and dispersive transport as well as sorption. Pulse source is analogous to a temporary spill from a tank or container. The simulation is used to obtain the profiles of contaminant concentration as a function of distance from the source and time for a steady groundwater velocity. Details regarding the development of the conceptual model, mathematical formulation and the idealized analytical solution can be accessed from the technical documentation file (PDF) supplied herein. The main capabilities of the MATLAB GUI are collecting input for the problem, and calculating the concentration at a specified location and time. Concentration variation can be plotted against time for a given location, as well as along orthogonal axes pairs for the given time. Animated frame sequences can be generated and the results of the analyses can be exported using various tools. All input fields are subject to validation and exception handling steps.
