Unify4Life Unveils Garage|Shadow for BlackBerries
Unify4Life, the popular developer of different smart home applications, announced recently its Garage|Shadow, an innovative product meant to allow BlackBerry owners to use their smartphones to open their garage doors.
“The Unify4Life Garage|Shadow is a great example of the truly wonderful innovations being built on the BlackBerry platform,” said Jeff McDowell, vice president, Global Alliances at Research in Motion. “Customers identified a possible use for their smartphones and Unify4Life was able to give them that capability in a very short timeframe on the BlackBerry platform.
Unify4Life announced that, according to a recent customer survey, 1 in 3 respondents unveiled that they would like to use their BlackBerry smartphone to control the garage door. It seems the people consider this a rather convenient feature, which may prove beneficial when they are out for a walk, cycling or driving a motorcycle.
“We envision and are enabling, a day in the near future, when a BlackBerry smartphone will interact with and control any home or office product a customer desires,” said Mike Nykoluk, founder and chairman of Unify4Life. “Leveraging the BlackBerry platform enabled us to provide customers a convenient, cost effective, secure, and easy to use garage door remote.”
The new Garage|Shadow enables users to open, close or stop the garage door from within their car, while riding a bike or when returning from walking the dog. If the “Automatic Open” feature is activated, the garage door will open as soon as it comes on sight. Moreover, all members of the family can enjoy their personal garage door remote if they are owners of a BlackBerry smartphone.
The company announced that the application would become available in April at a price tag placed under $40. Moreover, it will be compatible with a range of BlackBerry smartphones, including the BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Bold, as well as all BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry 8800 series of smartphones.
