QuickGPS is a navigation system optimized for geocaching but it can also work without a bluetooth GPS receiver for map browsing.
The maps are stored in own format which is very efficient, they can be built by an included Windows program (Map Builder) based on Google maps in a few seconds. Maps may have several zoom levels, moreover they can also have different level of details (lower zoom = less detail on map). Also it is possible to build maps from Ozi Explorer's format or a bitmap (see more infromation in attached documentation).
QuickGPS supports simple Latitude/Longitude projection and also several UTM map projections (WGS-84, WGS-72, WGS-66 and many others). The projection may be set up before map is built in Map Builder or also directly in QuickGPS.
Once a GPS position is retrieved QuickGPS automatically detects the best suitable map and opens it. If your position moves off the map, QuickGPS tries to find the best available map again. Off course user can open any map using the menu. If no appropriate map is found the program still can work and show all nearby waypoints. It is also possible to open the last used map and show the last position on it.
QuickGPS also supports waypoints that are easy to manage (you can use a simple text editor or edit them directly in the application or import them from LOC/GPX files), QuickGPS can lead you precisely to the right place, it shows the direction and distance in meters. When you approach a waypoint, its hint is displayed on top of the screen.
If you import waypoints from GPX generated by geocaching.com, QuickGPS reads and stores many "cache" related information (cache type, size, difficulty, terrain, description). QuickGPS can display the caches just like geocaching.com - using well-known icons.
You can also display your track information which includes average speed, actual altitude, vertical distance (both up and down), graph of altitude progress and more. The track information can be exported to GPX format. The current track can also be displayed on the map. Moreover you can open as many saved tracks as you wish to see them on map (each may have a different color for simple comparison). When you start QuickGPS you can continue tracking from any saved track (turn off mobile phone when going to sleep and in the morning you can continue tracking). Also it is possible to pause tracking (useful when you are in building where position retrieved fom GPS may be wrong). There is also a speacial feature that allows you to follow a track. The track can also be created manually.
Program has several special features for geocaching, for example support for field notes (compatible with Garmin), list of today's finds, shows found caches with diffent icon, displays cache size and hint on approach to the cache, supports quick update of calculated/final coordinates for mystery and multi caches and more.
