The LocViewer loads according to the current position map sections of a Web service from the Internet and displays your location on the handset screen. Can be used as data source for example Street maps or satellite photos can be selected. In addition, the speed and movement direction are indicated. The map sections can move and zoom.
To minimize the data transmission fees, which map sections are stored on the phone, so that a country map to be loaded only once from the Internet.
LocViewer runs on all phones, at least CLDC 1.1 and MIDP 2.0 support and provide access to Bluetooth (JSR 82) or the serial interface (data cable). This applies to nearly all current mobile phone models. Alternatively, an integrated GPS receiver can be used if it is on JSR 179.
It supports GPS receivers with Bluetooth or serial interface, which provide the NMEA 0183 sentences GGA and VTG or RMC. This should almost all be available on the market.
The connection type "net / Internal" the Location API (JSR 179) is used. In this case no external GPS receiver is needed. The position is determined either by a built-in GPS receiver or the network operator. Apparently the latter is still supported in Germany so far by any provider.
