mac default iconMacnification For Mac Publisher's description

Most scientists rely on the Finder to manage their microscopic images.

Most scientists rely on the Finder to manage their microscopic images. While the Finder is great for general purpose file management, it has never been designed for managing scientific images. Macnification, on the other hand has been built from the ground up for microscopic image data: it knows how to handle many file formats (including JEOL tiff and Zeiss lsm, among others) and image metadata. Imagine all your microscopic images, available in one, easy-to-use interface.

Micro manager.
Macnification lets you create folders, smart folders, light tables and stacks with a single click. Smart folders can be based on image metadata. For example, you could create a smart folder that shows all images taken at 500x and above. Folders can be grouped into projects, neatly organizing your entire image library.

Made to measure.
Measuring won't get any easier: double-click any image to jump to full screen mode and start analyzing. With Macnification, you can measure length, area, perimeter, circularity, color values, etc. Measurements are added and updated while you measure and statistics are calculated on-the-fly. Of course, measurements can be exported to Numbers, Excel or any other spreadsheet application for further analysis.

Go for the big picture.
To improve your analysis and editing workflow, Macnification includes a convenient full-screen mode, hiding all desktop clutter while making it much easier to focus on your work. All adjustments are non-destructive: they do not alter the original image. In fact, the original image file is never touched.

See how Macnification stacks up.
When it comes to working with stacks, Macnification offers unique functionality. You can view stacks in three different modes, taking full advantage of Core Animation, the new animation framework in Leopard. With one click, you can create a z-slice. Watch the live-preview while dragging the section line.

Creating a time-lapse movie is a snap: set the image duration and save the movie in Quicktime format, ready to be integrated into your next Keynote or PowerPoint presentation.

Last but not least, Macnification makes it easy to combine stack images - taken at different focal levels - into one, sharp image using an advanced Extended Depth of Focus (EFI) algorithm. The EFI feature has been implemented using Core Image, taking full advantage of your Mac's graphics processor.

Master metadata.
Managing image metadata is a very important aspect of digital microscopy. Yet, almost every scientist is interested in different sets of metadata, depending on the microscope and the experiment type. Therefore, Macnification includes probably the most flexible metadata view ever developed on any platform. You can not only freely add and remove fields from the metadata view, you can also rearrange and group metadata.

The metadata view also keeps track of assigned keywords, the linked experiment, the number of applied ROIs, whether or not the image has been calibrated, ... all information you need to know, neatly organized.

Bring some innovation to the table.
Comparing images might be one of the few tasks that actually became more difficult with the advent of digital imaging. Scientists used to compare and arrange images on their desks. With light tables, Macnification finally solves this problem. It's now possible to freely lay out and compare images. Macnification adds more innovation, however. For example, you can resize images based on their magnification. That way, all image features will be shown at the same scale, making it easier to compare them. Light tables are also used for stitching images together. Simply drag images over each other and they will become semi-transparent to ease the stitching process.

What's New in This Release:

* Major rewrite of Stack functionality
* Stacks are no longer displayed in the Source List (on the left), but rather directly in the image browser (in the center).
* Full-screen mode can be opened on a second monitor. This allows to use the regular Macnification window for managing images, while viewing them in detail at the same time. By default, the full screen mode is opened on the screen the regular window is currently displayed on. To change this, go to Preferences - Full Screen.
* Added support for IPM (ImagePro Plus) and DV (DeltaVision) files.
* Added support for FluoView TIFF files
* Added support for FEI metadata
* Metadata export has been rewritten. Specific fields can now be included or omitted. Added support for RTF metadata export.
* Automatic ROI detection is now significantly faster and more robust.
* The import sheet is more informative; the estimation of progress is more accurate and informative.
* Performance and memory usage have been improved when importing large image files.
* Images are more carefully analyzed to ensure that they have a correct bitmap format and dynamic range.
* Images are stacked whenever the relevant metadata is available.
* Image files containing multiple image sets with different instruments (e.g. LIF) are completely imported.
* More metadata is recognized for the supported image types, with a special focus on calibration.
* Supported image files have a Macnification document icon, making it easier to distinguish them
* Improved DM3 import speed.
* Improved source list reliability.
* Modified data model to be more reliable.
* Improved stack drawing performance.
* Improved performance when browsing images and switching to full-screen mode.
* Added preference to retain compressed image formats when importing.
* Stacks can now be split as a whole, creating 1, 2 or 3 channel stacks.
* Images in a light table now display their scale bar.
* Improved image export speed.
* Updated scale bar interface.
* Scale bar lengths can now be restricted to standard lengths.
* Scale bars can now have a background box, making it easier to distinguish them.
* Fixed issue where some scale bars would have zero length.
* Light table images are now sorted by name when arranging them.
* Custom defined metadata can now be used to sort, filter or search in the Library, albums, stacks and light tables.
* Image channels can now be split into grayscale or color channel images.
* Image channels can now be merged if their source is contained in R/G/B channels.
* Updated image merge interface.
* Updated welcome interface.
* Fixed issue where smart folder dates would not work correctly.
* Fixed issue where some icons were blurry.
* Fixed issue where ROI extraction would fail if too many regions were present.
* Fixed colors of some UI borders.
* Fixed image display issues in the image browser and when creating a Montage.
* Fixed behavior issues of Mini Browser.
* Fixed issue where ZVI images would not always be calibrated.
* Fixed issue where images added to a light table, would animate to the edge of that light table.
* Fixed issue where the light table would incorrectly resize images according to magnification.
* Fixed issue where ROI colors would not be correctly displayed when using grayscale images.
* Fixed issue where the screen would remain black when exiting full-screen mode.
* Fixed issue where splitting channels in particular image types would crash the application.
* Fixed issue where some images would have their byte order incorrectly adjusted after import.
* Fixed issue where no image is selected when entering full-screen mode.
* Fixed issue where horizontal and vertical line ROIs would not be displayed.
* Fixed issue where scale bars would have incorrect lengths in some cases.
* Fixed issue where scale bars would not be adjusted after re-calibration.
* Fixed issue where 16-, 24- and 32-bit images would not be correctly split/merged.
* Fixed data model issue with stack images.
