Computer programs can make your computer use more power.....
Computer programs can make your computer use more power. PowerTOP is a Linux tool that helps you find those programs that are misbehaving while your computer is idle. The application that misbehaved the most was the Linux kernel.
PowerTOP has these four basic goals:
* Show how well your system is using the various hardware power-saving features
* Show you the culprit software components that are preventing optimal usage of your hardware power savings
* Help Linux developers test their application and achieve optimal behavior
* Provide you with tuning suggestions to achieve low power consumption
What's New in This Release:В· The 2.0 codebase extensively uses the kernel "perf" infrastructure to give much more accurate data for the various reports.
В· Another major feature of the 2.0 code base is that the power behavior of the various devices in the system is prominently tracked and displayed, so that it's clear which devices are problematic in terms of power behavior.
В· A new power estimation engine is able to give an estimate of how much power individual devices and processes in the system are consuming.
В· This release requires a relatively new kernel to work properly (2.6.37, but 2.6.36 will also work).
System Requirements:No special requirements.
Program Release Status: Minor Update
Program Install Support: Install and Uninstall
