Linux kernel webcams Driver GSPCA / SPCA5xx Publisher's description
from Michel Xhaard
Linux kernel webcams Driver GSPCA / SPCA5xx package contains drivers for most of today's webcams.
With the appearance of the digital world, "creations" are getting slowly detached from their material supports. Images, music, words and algorithms furrow the planet day and night in front of the wide open eyes of the merchants.
The exodus of the knowledge leads a ground promised to many upheavals. While armies of lawyers wonder about the way "to sell the ideas", a rumour rises implying that they could be "free like the air, free like water, free like knowledge".
Here you will find my experimental work about various Usb Camera Chips Support (Sunplus, Etoms, Conexant, Z-star ~ Vimicro, Sonix, Zoran, IcMedia ~ TransVision based): Spca5xx Linux Kernel module.
At the moment, manufacturers of usb bridge and camera sensor did not help us.
Therefore, this driver (list of recognised cams here) is the result of reverse engineering the protocols and functionality provided by these chips.
This limits what we can do, and it limits the quality of the driver, but without manufacturer supplying us with the needed specifications and technical documentation, we can only guess some basic functions.
