linux default iconBrowserMasquerade Publisher's description

Browser Masquerade: Modifies the http-request-string and the javascript UserAgent ID sent by the browser, depending on the website you're currently visiting, and the referrer

BrowserMasquerade is an useful tool for changing the HTTP-Request string and the the javascript UserAgent ID (like userAgent, oscpu etc.) of Firefox. In combination with the FireFox add-ons "TorButton" (Tor), "NoScript", QuickJava, "Ghostery", "HeaderSpy", "Adblock Plus", "FlashBlock" and "Selective Cookie delete", the add-on "BrowserMasquerade" allows more safer surfing than without. So it is for websites/webservers (e.g. that contains malware) much more diffiicult to determine what browser and which operation system you use (But you should never forget a good anti-virus-software and be careful with FlashObjects and javascript!). To see what your Browser is currently giving away about your privacy & security have a look at "http://www.browserspy.dk"

To get to BrowserMasquerades Main-menu simply click on right-mouse-button in FireFox (Context-PopUp-menu) / look in Firefox tools menu for BrowserMasquerades Icon

There is a complete online help on each dialog. The add-on relies strong on regular expressions. You can get an exiting explanation with the possibility to test your regexp on-line on the site "http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/jsref_obj_regexp.asp". For the explanation of the possible HTTP-Request-strings just do a simple "googling" or simply visit "http://www.ericgiguere.com/tools/http-header-viewer.html" (For viewing your current header-settings you can also use the FireFox Add-On "HeaderSpy" or the previous mentioned websites).

You can now - depending on the website you visit/you come from - change the browser ID (user-agent and javascript Useragent , cookies etc.) to any browser you want! Examples for on-the-world existing browser IDs are here: http://www.user-agents.org. You can also use (but it is never recommended for anonymity) fantasy names, stupid words, leet textes etc.

As one of Reviewers (Pensacola_y) down here remarked, BrowserMasquerade ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH FOR ANONYMITY!!! Therefore you should use it ALWAYS IN COMBINATION WITH THE ABOVE MENTIONED FIREFOX-ADDONS
